Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced on Thursday that all the classified documents pertaining to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy would be made public within the next “few days.”

During a cabinet meeting with President Donald Trump, she announced that her team of “hunters” were “actively” searching FBI and CIA files for any missing “truths.” Undisclosed details on the two prominent figures in American history should be released “in a few days,” Gabbard continued.

Meanwhile, Americans have been highly disappointed by the files on former President John F. Kennedy and pedophile sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, which were made public earlier this year. The files failed to uncover any eye-opening evidence that would have answered the wide range of questions currently in circulation.

At the start of March, last month, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Department of Justice had received a “truckload of evidence,” presumably the rest of the files pertaining to the Epstein investigation, at the FBI’s headquarters. However, we still have yet to see this “truckload of evidence” as of April 11th, 2025.

Nevertheless, a smaller percentage of optimistic Americans have suggested that the MLK and RFK documents may ultimately prove more consequential. Furthermore, some theorize that the Epstein case remains too recent and “politically sensitive,” contending that all of the RFK and MLK files are more likely to be declassified — given that key individuals implicated are either deceased or nearing the end of their public or private influence.

“These have been sitting in boxes and storage for decades. They have never been scanned or seen before. We’ll have those ready to release here within the next few days,” she said, specifically regarding the RFK and MLK files.

Prior to the files’ final public release, Trump had already asked to receive them so that RFK’s son, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his secretary of health and human services — could examine them first.

“Let Bobby see some of this because, you know, it’s very personal stuff,” the GOP president said at the time.

“I’ve asked him,” Gabbard responded, assuring the president. “His response was ‘put it out – the world needs to know the truth.’”

Kennedy later noted that he was extremely “grateful” that his father’s files were being released.

RFK was assassinated on June 6th, 1968, in Los Angeles, after he won the California Democrat primary in that year’s presidential election. At the time, the victory in the California primary demonstrated to the Democrat Party that Kennedy was a strong candidate for the upcoming November election.

On April 4th, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr., a prominent civil rights movement figure, was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. He advocated for nonviolent resistance and equality for Black Americans, culminating in his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. He also stressed that Americans throughout the nation should be judged based on their character, rather than by their skin color.

Many critics of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives have invoked Martin Luther King Jr.’s rhetoric—particularly his aspiration for individuals to be judged by the “content of their character” rather than skin color—to argue against such programs.

Regardless of whether official investigations publicly revealed the full truth or contributed to a broader cover-up, Trump recognizes that information surrounding high-profile assassinations has often been withheld to prevent public upheaval and to shield specific individuals or groups. Consequently, he has ordered the release of records pertaining to the deaths of the two men.

Trump issued an executive order in January 2025 ordering the declassification of documents pertaining to both MLK Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy.

“Everything will be revealed,” Trump declared as he signed the EO.

Reportedly, unflattering and obscene information about King’s interactions with women that could “damage” his legacy are among the tapes and transcripts of the FBI’s monitoring prior to his murder. They are included in the material — which has been sealed since 1977.

However, for many, this is not the first time hearing of these claims, in 2017, the BBC reported that: “A secret FBI dossier on civil rights leader Martin Luther King alleges that he had a string of affairs and other ‘sexual aberrations,’ as well as links to the Communist Party.”

“Among its other accusations are that:

  • Dr. King was surrounded by advisers with strong links to the Communist Party USA.
  • His statements were always subject to approval by the alleged communist sympathisers.
  • He was a secret supporter of communism, “a whole-hearted Marxis.”
  • The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, set up a “tax dodge” to raise funds for its activities.
  • Dr King took part in “drunken sex orgies” and coerced young women to participate.
  • He had love affairs with at least four women, including folk singer Joan Baez,” the BBC reported.

Despite these claims, the files can also demonstrate how, at the direction of then-Director J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI was unlawfully monitoring King. Additionally, the organization targeted King by threatening to send a note urging him to commit suicide for the benefit of the civil rights movement. They also reportedly threatened to send a recording of King having an adulterous affair to his wife, Coretta.

Meanwhile, King’s family has protested the release, claiming it may resurrect public attempts to undermine the renowned civil rights champion. They even requested access to any MLK documents prior to their public release.

King was shot dead by assassin James Earl Ray at the Lorraine motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition, it’s also unclear how much fresh evidence will be revealed by the RFK assassination papers and what will transpire after they are made public. Since the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) spearheaded the inquiry, the majority of the files are housed in the California State Archives. Documents, photos, audio and video recordings, and other LAPD records related to the investigation are included in those folders. Although there are files with the FBI, since that was the agency that looked into the assassination of RFK, most of the files are in California — the DailyMail reported.

Although Gabbard can order the release of federal files, she does not have power over state files.

Many of RFK’s documents have already been made public, but some are still completely or partially blacked out — due to court-ordered seals or redactions.

A 24-year-old anti-Zionist Palestinian man named Sirhan Sirhan, who is now 81, shot RFK in reprisal for his backing of Israel after the 1967 Six-Day War. 25 hours later, RFK died. Although Sirhan was detained, put on trial, and found guilty, many theories still surround RFK’s killing — just as those surrounding his brother.

“We also have hunters going out… looking in the storage lockers at FBI and CIA and other agencies specifically to find if there are, if there is anything else that has not been reported. We’re actively going out and trying to search out the truth,” Gabbard reiterated.
