America’s woke librarians are among the latest to join the ranks of credentialed elites who feel they’re the unfairly oppressed under the barbaric reign of Donald Trump.
“The Institute of Museum and Library Services has placed its entire staff on administrative leave,” federally funded leftist media organization NPR lamented March 31. “The IMLS is a relatively small federal agency, with around 70 employees, that awards grant funding to museums and libraries across the United States.”
Gee, who could have a problem with that?
NPR and other taxpayer-gobbling embedded progressives would dearly love to paint Trump’s action as yet another senseless assault on serene civil servants whose only desire is to minister to the needs of America’s citizenry. But it’s another telling sign of how far these elites have removed themselves from the rest of the nation that they can no longer play this rather simple hackneyed role without giving their larger game away.
‘Accurate Information From Credible Sources’
“Well, libraries are here to connect all people to information and ideas. We believe that all Americans should have equal rights to access accurate information from credible sources,” American Library Association President Cindy Hohl told NPR. “And so it’s so important that Americans continue to be able to have access to programs that enrich their lives, educational programs. And, of course, if we’re talking about libraries, it’s going to be literacy-based. And so the focus of programming in any public sector is to always be able to provide information to people that is credible and trusted.”
And right there is the crux of the problem. In a few sentences, Hohl displayed everything wrong with the credentialed class today. She asserted that it was the duty of librarians to serve as gatekeepers of what is and is not proper information. She stressed that any such material must come from approved sources. And she defined all of this as a necessary function of the “public sector.”
America’s urban-bubble progressives can’t even hear themselves speaking the language of social tyranny anymore.
For the ALA, it’s nothing new. As Liberty Nation News has documented, this once respectable organization founded in 1876 succumbed to the Cultural Marxist takeover of US institutions some time ago. We’re not using that term casually.
Librarians for Social Revolution
“In 2023 the American Library Association elected as its president a Marxist lesbian. And how do you know someone’s a Marxist lesbian? Well, they’ll tell you,” The Federalist’s Mark Hemingway wittily noted March 28. “I just cannot believe that a Marxist lesbian who believes that collective power is possible to build and can be wielded for a better world is the president-elect of [ALA]” Emily Drabinski tweeted after capturing the post. “I am so excited for what we will do together. Solidarity!”
These are the people who believe they have a civic duty to steer Americans towards acceptable information.
“ALA is the largest and most respected membership association in the world for the library industry,” the group proclaims on its website. The progressive DEI social mantra runs amok throughout its various operations.
“Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion are fundamental values of the association and its members, and diversity is listed as one of ALA’s Key Action Areas,” the librarians state on an “Advocacy & Issues” page devoted to the topic. “The Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services uses a social justice framework to ensure the inclusion of diverse perspectives within our profession and association to best position ALA as a trusted, leading advocate for equitable access to library services for all.”
Sex Ed for Kids at the Library
ALA is holding its 2025 annual conference for librarians and fellow travelers in late June. “Opening General Session” speaker is progressive establishment Michigan Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The various events and forums taking place run the gamut of boilerplate leftist social convention, with a decidedly globalist flavor that must not be overlooked.
“Navigating Women’s Reproductive Health and Access to Information Challenges” is the title of one “education program” at the convention.
“This program aims to explore both the rights individuals have to reproductive health services, as per the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the significant challenges posed by restricted access to information,” a preview reads.
The host of that event, Loida Garcia-Febo, is described as a “Puerto Rican American librarian and International Library Consultant expert in library services to diverse populations and human rights.”
Garcia-Febo is hosting a second event at the ALA convention on “Leveraging the United Nations [Sustainable Development Goals] to benefit local libraries.”
This globalist stamp of approval is what the ALA has in mind for America’s public libraries.
“The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) offer a framework for libraries to apply, one which many libraries globally already use. This can be used in libraries for planning, prioritizing, and guiding their work, as well as for educating and sharing how the library is supporting its community locally and globally,” the preview text states.
Warping the minds of young children is also a part of ALA’s mission. Another “Education Program” session at the convention is titled “Sex is a Funny Word: Incorporating Gender and Sexuality Literature and Activities into Youth Programming.”
“Participants will be provided with sample scripts and language to answer common questions about gender & sexuality programming for youth ages 4-10. They will be able to thoughtfully explain the need for this type of library programming to all stakeholders,” ALA proclaims.
This is what the Trump administration is pulling the plug on. ALA has received over $5 million in federal grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services since 2018, a search of the IMLS awarded grants database shows.
“The control of information is something the elite always does, particularly in a despotic form of government. Information, knowledge, is power. If you can control information, you can control people,” is how the quote attributed to author Tom Clancy goes. The proud Cultural Marxists at the American Library Association understand this all too well.
