President Donald Trump is being pressured by dozens of House Democrats to certify that Special Government Employee (SGE) Elon Musk will step down from his post by May 30th.

In a letter to Trump on Wednesday, 77 Democrat Congress members, led by Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas), reminded President Trump that the tech mogul can only hold his position as an SGE for a total of 130 days.
“Per 18 U.S.C. § 202 (a), an SGE is ‘an officer or employee . . . who is appointed to perform temporary duties, with or without compensation, for a period not to exceed 130 days during any period of 365 consecutive days,’” according to the U.S. Federal Labor Relations Authority.
The Democrats’ letter read:
“Considering the repeated violations of the law by Musk and your administration, we demand an immediate public statement from your administration making clear that Musk will resign and surrender all decision making authority, as required by law, by May 30th,” they wrote.
“In his short time in government, Elon Musk has done enormous harm to working Americans,” they continued, adding, “While millions of Americans are suffering, Musk is continuing to enrich himself and break ethics laws.”
Casar also claimed that his party has “legal tools at our disposal, political tools at our disposal,” as well as the “full force of public pressure.”
Musk’s tenure as a Special Government Employee (SGE) under the second Trump administration has sparked significant controversy and criticism from Democrats. During his days of service, he spearheaded a campaign aimed at saving trillions in federal spending, while uncovering widespread instances of fraud and waste within the government.
This includes large cuts to the whole federal workforce, especially in his capacity as the unofficial leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Beyond DOGE, Musk’s wide-ranging business network has also frequently sparked concerns with Democrats. Left-wing politicians have argued that his inclusion in the Trump administration is a “conflict of interest,” arguing that a number of his businesses profit from government contracts.
Nevertheless, the CEO of Tesla has said that he intends to complete his work inside the 130-day window. Last month, he told Fox News‘ Bret Baier that he anticipates finishing the majority of his DOGE work during that period.
Politico reported that Trump has also already informed his close circle that Musk will be leaving his position with the government in the upcoming weeks.
On Wednesday, the group of House Democrats continued to urge the president to formally confirm Musk’s resignation.
“For the good of the country, Elon Musk should be removed from his position immediately,” they wrote. “Under the law, Mr. Musk cannot remain in his position beyond May 30th.”
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, in another eye-opening discovery, DOGE also disclosed that millions of dollars in unemployment benefits had been paid to “fake people” who haven’t even been born yet — including some of whom weren’t even born this century.
According to DOGE, it examined a preliminary analysis of unemployment claims since 2020 and discovered that 9,700 people with dates of birth that are more than 15 years in the future had filed claims totaling $69 million. An X post by the department claimed that in one instance, an individual with a recorded birth year of 2154 had received $41,000. DOGE also found that about 28,000 individuals between the ages of 1 and 5 claimed $254 million in benefits — and another 24,500 adults above the age of 115 collected at least $59 million.
“Your tax dollars were going to pay fraudulent unemployment claims for fake people born in the future!” Musk raged on X. “This is so crazy that I had to read it several times before it sank in,” he added.
