Kamala Harris and her husband are raking in cash ahead of her likely run for California governor in 2026

Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, is facing pressure to resign after his new law firm, Willkie Farr & Gallagher, cut a deal with the Trump administration earlier this month to scrap diversity programs and offer free legal services to Trump-approved causes. Emhoff allegedly opposed the deal, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to give up his partnership at the firm anytime soon. Harris and Emhoff are desperate to amass personal wealth before she inevitably runs for governor in 2026, and Willkie Farr is shelling out “around $6 million” a year for Emhoff’s services, according to the New York Times.
While most people would consider $6 million to be an absurd amount of money, Democratic politicians and their spouses are unlikely to view that hefty sum as adequate compensation for their noble sacrifice. (Bill and Hillary Clinton, for example.) The Times reports that Harris is searching for a “new revenue source” to replace the federal funding for ex-vice presidents to maintain an office, which runs out in July. She has hired the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to “gauge interest in speaking engagements and a potential book.” Later this month, Harris will give the keynote address at a real estate conference in Australia, a gig that would typically command a low- to mid-six-figure fee plus travel costs. Emhoff has also hired CAA to promote his availability on the paid speaking circuit.
Harris is also reportedly exploring the possibility of “establishing an institute for policy and ideas,” which makes sense given her deep knowledge of the issues and her renowned ability to articulate complex thoughts. This would allow Harris to rake in “donations” from wealthy Democrats looking to curry favor with the (likely) future governor of California while pretending to study policy and ideas, a method sometimes referred to as the “Clinton money grab.” Not surprisingly, Harris has reached out to Hillary Clinton to discuss her political and financial future. She has also reportedly had conversations with Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, and Reid Hoffman, the tech billionaire who traveled to “Pedophile Island” with the disgraced sex trafficker and “suicide” victim Jeffrey Epstein.
